Introduction
Simnasty Trust is a non-profit organization that was launched in 2020 with the aim of promoting sports and arts as tools for socio-economic empowerment in Africa. The organization believes that sports and arts can foster creativity, innovation, leadership, teamwork, and resilience among the youth and the marginalized communities in the continent.
However, the organization faced many challenges in its first year of operation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted its activities and limited its outreach. Despite the difficulties, Simnasty Trust did not give up on its vision and continued to seek opportunities to make a positive impact.
Events
In 2021, Simnasty Trust partnered with MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU Africa in Kenya to organize two major events: the Scholar Challenge and the Africa Night Concert. The Scholar Challenge was a competition that invited scholars from different African countries to showcase their talents and skills in sports and arts, such as football, dodgeball, dance, traditional games, music, poetry and fashion. The challenge aimed to celebrate the diversity and excellence of the African youth and to inspire them to pursue their passions and dreams.
The Africa Night Concert was a cultural extravaganza that featured performances by representatives from African countries present. The concert also included speeches by student leaders and activist. The concert aimed to raise awareness and advocacy for the recognition of sports and arts as vital sectors for the socio-economic development of Africa.
The two events were a huge success, attracting hundreds of participants and spectator. They also generated positive feedback from the participants who have gone to be impactful members of the USIU Africa sports and arts fraternities. The events demonstrated the potential and power of sports and arts to unite and transform lives and communities in Africa.
Future Scope
Simnasty Trust plans to continue its work and expand its network and impact in the coming years. The organization hopes to collaborate with more partners and stakeholders, such as governments, NGOs, schools, universities, corporations, and media outlets, to support and promote sports and arts in Africa. Simnasty Trust also intends to launch more programs and projects, such as scholarships, grants, mentorships, workshops, festivals, and campaigns, to empower and enable more people to access and benefit from sports and arts.
